True RPG: Mercenary
True RPG: Mercenary (Hereby: Mercenary) is the first of hopefully many digital gamebooks or interactive fiction I'd like to make. You play as a mercenary in a company during medieval times. The settings is loosely based on Europe but includes some magical elements.
You begin by choosing one of three unique backgrounds to play through, ala Dragon Age: Origins. Each will tie into the main story in some way, big and/or small. The story will be mostly "low-stakes" mercenary living with the finale being more fantastical.
There's no combat system. Instead, you make choices in combat that will decide injuries, death, life, and whether a contract gets done. The game is (usually) not interested in outright killing you. The focus is on creating a compelling narrative above all else.
Mercenary will be free. A demo will release in the coming months either before or after the three background stories are done. Further updates will be released at my discretion.
You can help Mercenary and my efforts in general by joining my Patreon, which I'm using as my main method of support. You'll find poetry (for free) on there and short stories (half are free to read, half are paid only) as well.
Currently, there are over 14,000 words, across 3 wholly unique background stories. The main plot is not yet in the game. Mercenary is expected to be at least 30,000K words when complete. I don't have a specific word count goal in mind.
Mercenary is text-only. Written entirely by me, Cleril. It is developed via Twine, using Sugarcube.

Really good game! Are you thinking of making other digital gamebooks like this one?
Thank you so much! Mercenary is still in development as my long-term project. I expect it to double in size before it is considered finished. I just released a short interactive fiction called Human Interview: https://cleril.itch.io/human-interview-subject-003
So glad to see you're still making games!
Thanks Norbez! Honored to have a fan.
